If you’ve been waiting for the flood of mainstream movie content to show up on 3D TV or for new movie blockbusters to become available on Amazon keep waiting. Not everything is better in 3D. Then again somethings become objects of beauty or great insight that is only available with 3D. Documentaries and informational videos become greatly enhanced with 3D. Anything where the visual is the message looks clearer and crisper on 3D TV.

These pieces are shot especially for 3D and play to all the strengths it can provide. When the visual is the message the message is made more believable and realistic with these newly re-invented or technically modified stereo-optic devices. Home movies also fit into this category. It is that type of video documenting that benefits from the realism that 3D can add. Live sports becomes a real treat and can even make some non-sports aficionados turn over a new leaf on how they feel about football or soccer, even after just one game view.

It truly enhances the medium. If this is the direction 3D TV is heading then it will be successful in it’s trend setting intentions. But to add 3d techniques to serious drama or a video of stage comedians or variety talk shows and similar fare is just hype and will turn more people off from 3D TV purchases than not.
